Being one of Indonesian distinctive textile material, traditional hand-woven fabrics are still less explored compared to batik. A new accessory brand Lungsin has been focusing to explore various kinds of hand-woven fabrics.

"When we started to sell it, many still thought that the hand-woven textile is knitted textile," said Marketing Executive, Isti Paramesti to Tempo.

Initiated in 2012 by Aulia Rusdi,  Lungsin offers products such as bags, purses, clutch bags and lunch box made of hand-woven materials. So far, Lungsin has transformed over ten types of hand-woven fabrics into various products.

"We believe that woven fabrics can be more interesting and wearable at any occasions, so we don't hesitate to cut it [into pieces]," said the the 22-year-old Isti.

Two years since it was established, Lungsin products have been worn by both socialites or young executives.

However, not everyone agree to Lungsinā€™s decision to cut the traditionally woven fabrics just to turn it into accessories. The reason behind the disagreement is the long way and particular values that accompany the traditional woven fabrics or batik. Cutting the fabric carelessly could be considered as "rape" towards the values.

Lungsin claimed that they always carefully choosing and cutting the woven fabrics they use. Usually, they would cut certain motives out from the fabric to be sewn and attached in such ways on a product's surface.
