Bamboo craftsmen in Indonesia are still loyal to the handicraft business of making woven bamboo items in the midst of competition for all-plastic furniture. All items made from bamboo are made in the craftsman’s house, including baskets, fans, steamer, sieve or strainer, and nyiru or tampah.
It is not difficult to find raw materials because most of the craftsmen have gardens that are overgrown with bamboo. If the raw materials are available, in a day the craftsman can finish two pieces of bamboo furniture. There is no difficulty in weaving because these skills have been mastered since they were young.
Apart from various home furnishings products, the craftsmen also made various miniatures and handicrafts from bamboo, ranging from face sketch paintings to miniature vehicles. The price is affordable, very suitable for souvenirs when visiting Indonesia.
The craftsmen process bamboo slats into works of art with economic value, such as miniature houses and knick-knacks so that they can become aesthetically pleasing stretches of the village. For miniature houses, the smallest size is 15 centimeters. Meanwhile, the bamboo village mockup is 1×1 meter in size, in which there are 5 to 7 miniature houses made of bamboo which are equipped with other facilities. In addition, they have also exported many bamboo watches and musical instruments to various countries.
