\nBANGALORE March 2: A Women and Child Welfare Committee of the Karnataka Legislature has observed some discrepancies in the functioning of garment factories in Bangalore city and has recommended several measures, including pay hike for employees, for improving the working conditions for women.

\nThe committee headed by Seema Ashok Masuti in its report recommended to the managements of factories to hike minimum monthly wages of employees from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,0000.<\/p>\n
The panel members visited Leela Scotish Lase Private Limited Unit -2, Global Garments, Gokuldas Images Private Limited in the city and noted that there was no salary difference between an employee of one year experience and 10 years of experience in factories.<\/p>\n
As many as 862 women employees had been working in Leela Scotish Lase Private Limited Unit -2 and it had given Sunday holiday to all employees. It also granted 10 other holidays in a year for all employees. However, the factory has not nominated a non-governmental representative to the sexual harassment prevention committee, it said.
\nGlobal Garments had hired 1350 women employees and had been giving salary ranging from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 6,000 per month based on experience and qualification, the report said. It also recommended to the management to appoint a NGO nominee to the sexual harassment prevention committee.<\/p>\n
It said that managements of all garment factories should provide free transport to women employees. The panel told managements to provide bonus to all employees of the factory without fail. The factories had been denying bonus and other incentives to employees. It also recommended to all garment factories to take measures to conduct union activities, sports and cultural programmes and library facility for employees.<\/p>\n
Stating the link roads to factories had been too narrow and congested with potholes, the committee recommended to the government to take action against the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials for the neglect of roads and not filling up road potholes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
