Garment producers develop top quality products

\nMany Vietnamese high-quality garment brand names have recently appeared in the local stores. Scant years ago, only the Viet Tien and An Phuoc garment companies were known for producing luxurious products, but now the number is increasing

\nBrand names of high-grade garment products like Viettien, Vie Laross and Vee Laross of the Viet Tien Garment Company are trusted names to Vietnamese consumers. Last March, the company launched another high-grade fashion brand name, T-up, for high-income earners. Each product is priced up to VND4-10mil (US$250-625). T-up products are designed and produced under the same processes of high-grade ready-to-wear garment brand names like Prada and Calvin Klein.

\nHead of the Sales Department of Viet Tien, Phan Van Kiet, said that his company has spent three years and investment of VND5bil ($312,500) to develop the brand name. The company invited French Vietnamese designer, Long Gilles Le Duy, and several other international class famous designers to work for T-up.

\nIn mid-April, the Garment Company No. 10 will also launch new lines of men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shirts of various grades, including a high-quality one for office staff and businessmen priced VND400,000-600,000 ($25-37.5) per item.

\nGarment Company No. 10 previously produced medium-grade products, priced from VND100,000-200,000 ($6.25-13)\/shirt, while high-grade products accounted for a very small percentage of their wares.

\nAccording to Bui Duc Thang, Deputy Head of Garment Company No. 10\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Sales Department, with its current level of prestige at home and abroad, his company is unable to further develop such products. In addition, the market for medium-grade shirts is saturated, so the firm will switch up to high-grade products.

\nSaigon Garment Company No. 2, owner of the Sanding brand name, has introduced high-grade products for customers of all ages. Its Sanding, Dobowr One, Besosi lines are priced ranging from VND200,000 to VND600,000 ($12.5-37.5).

\nBright future for high-grade products

\nAccording to garment producers, the market for medium-grade garment products has been saturated, while lower echelons are filled by Chinese goods. To improve brand awareness and create a new market branch, garment firms are now producing higher-grade products.

\nDespite the shift in business operations, the products are not selling well, as incomes in Vietnam are not high. However, garment producers still believe such products have a bright future.

\nAccording to Phan Van Kiet, when the living standard increases, the need for higher quality and more fashionable garments will rise. Viet Tien has opened shops exclusively for its T-up brand in HCM City and the company will open some in Hanoi and other urban centres.

\nHe said that after launching the quality shirts, Garment 10 would develop its distribution system. The firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goal is to gain deeper access to the southern market. So far, around 75-80% of its products are sold in the north, with the southern market just waiting to be tapped.
