\nSrinagar, Jan 19: To boost Kashmir handicrafts, which play a pivotal role in providing employment to a big chunk of population in the state, an awareness camp-cum seminar was organized by Induscos Co-operatives in collaboration with School of Designs, department of Handicraft in Madre Meharaban Complex Miskeen Bagh, Srinagar today.
\n Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Dr. Asgar Samoon inaugurated the seminar. The first of its kind in the valley, was attended by a sizeable number of Srinagar artisans besides joint Director Handicrafts Mohammed Ashraf Alaqband, joint Registrar, Induscos Cooperatives M. A. Bhat, Chairperson, Madre Meharaban Trust, Suraya Mattoo and Chief Designer school of designs, Ameena Assadullah.
\n The objective of organizing awareness camp cum-seminar was to design the Kashmir handicrafts keeping in view the global fashion trends while upholding the traditional fineness.
\n Addressing the artisans, the Deputy Commissioner stressed upon them to take full advantage of exquisite designs prepared by designers of school of designs so that their products can compete at the national and inter-national level. He stressed the need for holding seminars at tehsil and district levels so that the artisans get fully acquainted with the updated designs to have better marketting support.
\n Responding to the problems and demands projected by the participating artisans, Dr. Samoon assured them that their problems in respect of financial assistance through banks and providing of marketting facility would be taken up with the concerned authorities. In this context, he asked the Joint Registrar Induscos to come up with a proposal, which would be discussed and forwarded to the government for sympathetic consideration.
