Target your next employer like a tailor-made garment

If you like clothes and have ever had the opportunity to wear something custom-made, you felt pretty good every time you wore it. You chose the fabric and style and it was measured just for you. It was targeted just for you, and it made you feel special.<\/p>\n
Your next employer should be targeted, just like a tailor-made garment. You are the tailor and you need to make your impressions special. You make that employer stand out and what happens?<\/p>\n
_ You become special.<\/p>\n
_ You become noticed.<\/p>\n
_ You become just a little taller than the rest.<\/p>\n
_ You have done what too many others fail to do.<\/p>\n
_ You have put forth a little more effort to get hired, and it matters to employers.<\/p>\n
How do you tailor-make your presentation?<\/p>\n
Start with your research.<\/p>\n
Think about what you have to offer an employer and which employers need what you offer. Identify those employers, then go the extra mile to identify individuals within those companies who may be able to influence hiring decisions. Those are the people you want to contact and ask for interviews.

Throw out your mass-produced form-letter cover letters and resumes. They’ll do more good heating your home than getting you hired.<\/p>\n
Custom-tailor your cover letters for each employer you contact. No more “Dear Hiring Manager” or “Dear Human Resource Manager.” Not good enough. Not personal. Not targeted. If you did your homework, you have names, titles and addresses. Use them. Make a positive first impression.<\/p>\n
You can use the contents of those old form-letter cover letters, but make them fresh and personal and targeted to each individual you want to meet.<\/p>\n
The same with your resume. It may be fine the way it is, but you can personalize the objective and tweak a little here and a little there to make it personalized for each individual employer. It takes a little more time, but your future is worth it, isn’t it?<\/p>\n
Do what others fail to do. Work a little harder now for a more rewarding future.<\/p>\n
