\nThe Ethiopian leather, textile and garment industry is all set to recieve support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is conducting studies to assist the industrial sector of Ethiopia.

\nJICA is essentially engaged into providing technical co-operation and grant aid to different countries. It also supports technology transfer in several fields such us textile, garments and leather.<\/p>\n
Government of Ethiopia has decided to focus on leather, leather products, garment and textile industries on a priority basis and JICA has agreed to coordinate with the central authority for lending support to this sector.<\/p>\n
It has been strongly suggested that primary attention be given to capacity building in order to revive the industrial sector of the country.<\/p>\n
However, official sources from JICA informed Fibre2fashion that JICA\u2019s plan to support the leather and garment industry in Ethiopia, is still a plan in its initial stages and that no work has yet been initiated in this regard. Presently, the agency is only providing support in terms of professionals in various fields.<\/p>\n
Nonetheless, Japan has announced at the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 4) to enhance its developmental aid to African countries by 2012 wherein Ethiopia would be one of the prime beneficiaries of the grants.<\/p>\n
