\nBANGALORE: The High Court on Thursday directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to close a garment factory beside the Arkavati river at Makali in Bangalore North taluk.

\nChief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V Gopal Gowda ordered the closure of Measures Text Court Industry, which was releasing effluents into the river.<\/p>\n
While disposing the petition, the Division Bench said: “The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board had not taken any action to close the industry, despite the directions of the Court. It was the responsibility of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to close down the industry which is causing pollution.”<\/p>\n
Govt appeal dismissed THE High Court on Thursday dismissed the Central Government’s appeal challenging the Single Bench direction regarding Swathantra Sainik Samman pension to Arya Venkoba Rao, a freedom fighter.<\/p>\n
While dismissing the appeal, Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V Gopal Gowda said the denial of pension was arbitrary. The Government had denied pension to Rao, citing technical reasons.<\/p>\n
The Government should be logical in their approach while considering the applications of freedom fighters.<\/p>\n
According to the Central Government rule, eligibility criteria for availing pension is that the freedom fighter should have been imprisoned at least for six months during the freedom struggle.<\/p>\n
The Single Judge Bench, on January 2004, had directed the Centre to give Swathantra Sainik Samman pension to Venkoba Rao.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Government contended that Venkoba Rao, who was imprisoned during the freedom struggle had undergone only three months imprisonment and denied pension.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
