Teak Furniture Requires Minimal Care, and Here's All You Need to Do

If you don't know already, your teak outdoor furniture requires very little care. It is a dream come true for those who don't have a lot of time, or don't want to spend it caring for furniture.
To look its best, teak requires only minimal care and still manages to look great indefinitely. Even though teak price tags tends to be on the higher side, the money you paid is well worth it.

Brand new teak furniture is a warm golden brown, somewhat like honey. With time it ages into a lovely silvery ash grey. You can decide whether you prefer to keep the initial golden brown look, or let it slowly turn grey.
In either case, to keep it looking its best, you will have to clean the teak furniture from time to time. However its care is not very time consuming and easy to carry out. Here's how to care for teak for the best results:

Simple Cleaning

- Clean your teak furniture periodically with a brush for simple cleaning.
- If it is showing dirt, use a mild mixture of soap and water and scrub with a soft brush to loosen and remove it. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
- In case you are planning to polish your outdoor teak furniture, first letting it dry completely is a very important step. So make sure to give it plenty of time.

Removing Grease Stains

Grease stains very often happen to all outdoor furniture, especially when you cook and enjoy meals outdoors. They can be removed with the help of a cleaner recommended by the manufacturer, and it is always best to go with their instructions. In case you cannot find a recommendation, look online for a commercial grade teak cleaner such as these ones available on Amazon.com or check out your local outdoor furniture store. Try it out in an inconspicuous spot first.

Before using any commercial grade cleaner, you should be aware that it could have the effect of restoring your teak to its original golden color, which could mean applying the cleaner to the entire piece instead of spot cleaning. That may or may not be a good thing depending on whether you prefer the aged grey look or the new golden look.

If you do prefer the aged silvery gray look, you might have to wait for some time to get it back after a deep clean. To prevent grease stains from occurring in the first place, seal your teak furniture with a clear finish once it has acquired the gray patina. That will also prevent any other stains from setting in.

If You Need to Polish

The good news is that teak furniture does not necessarily require polishing, but you may have to polish it if you feel the need to restore it the original warm golden brown. If you do prefer the initial golden tone to the gray tone it tends to acquire in the sun, use a sealant when you first purchase it. After that you will only have to apply oil to it from time to time.

Some Precautions...

While teak is quite impervious to decay and rot, but you can help it along even further by not letting water pool on the seat or around the legs. Wipe the water off from the seat if it collects there after rain. Place the furniture where it will not have to sit in pooled water.

So, there are many steps to keep your teak funiture clean and always look extraordinary. For more info about product of teak furniture, especially from Indonesia, please visit:
