Songket is a traditional type of woven fabric. Songket woven by hand, wearing gold and silver thread. songket cloth generally worn on formal occasions. The word comes from the term songket "sungkit" in the Indonesian language, which means "hook" or "gouged". This relates to a method of making cloth, by linking and took a pinch of woven fabric, and then slipped the gold and silver thread.

Songket is a luxurious fabric that is usually worn during the celebration or party. Songket can be worn by wrapping the body like a glove, it could be slung over the shoulder or in use as a "headband" or "grade" as a decorative headband.

When seen from the materials used and how to manufacture and cost, songket is the cloth was originally a luxury of the nobles who demonstrate degrees of glory and dignity of the wearer.

To keep the preservation of cultural heritage, the songket has been preserved in various ways, as well as a part of everyday lifestyle in living culture and living tradition.
