Indonesia’s top designers will once again bring local fabrics to the global stage. This time, Dian Pelangi, Barli Asmara, and Zaskia Sungkar are going to present their collections based on West Nusa Tenggara’s Ikat at the New York Fashion Week which will be happening on 12 February 2015. The three designers name their fashion show “From Lombok to New York”.

Ikat is Indonesia’s traditional hand-woven fabric which is created from a lot of tied and coloured threads. From this fabric, Dian Pelangi is creating an amazing and colourful dress with the theme “Tales of Tambora”.

“I chose the theme Tales of Tambora to commemorate the Tambora Greet the World – commemorating the violent explosion of Mt. Tambora exactly 2 centuries ago – as well as the Hola Tambora Campaign which is aimed to introduce Mount Tambora to the American public,” explained Dian Pelangi during the Press Conference.

Meanwhile, Barli Asmara is bringing up the theme of “Royal Lombok” and Zaskia Sungkar chooses “Princess Mandalika” theme from Lombok’s legend Bau Nyale.

The New York Fashion Week is held twice a year in the month of February and September and it is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, collectively known as the “Big 4”.
