Before we talk further about denim, now we should to know about basic of denim. Have you ever seen denim (pants, shirt, shoes, bag, or whatever)?? hahaha, absolutely you all have seen it.

Do you ever thought, what is denim? why that things called denim??

Denim is a fabric with a twill in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. This twill weaving produces the familiar diagonal ribbing of the denim that distinguishes it from cotton duck. The warp yarn is dyed (usually used indigo dyes or sulphur dyes) and weft is undyed (sometimes weft is dyed too).

The special of denim is method of dyeing, that in conventional use fabric dyeing method than denim use yarn dyed method. Dye with indigo is a special treatment, why?? because it just like a ring dye, which is penetration of dyes only on surface of yarn. So, that’s who can make denim fabric color is easy to be distract and make some fade.

Denim that we used as a pants, shirt, jacket, skirt and many more are from a fabric. Now we will talk about the component of denim fabric. The component are:

- Fiber: Fiber is a natural or synthetic string or used as a component of composite materials, or, when matted into sheets, used to make products such as paper, papyrus, or felt. Fibers are often used in the manufacture of other materials. Fiber of denim mostly from cotton 100% for warp and weft yarn, but nowadays also used polyester and poly uretane for weft yarn and viscose for warp yarn.

- Dyestuff : Indigo dyes: Indigo is a color that is traditionally regarded as a color on the visible spectrum, as well as one of the seven colors of the rainbow: the color between blue and violet. Although traditionally considered one of seven major spectral colors, its actual position in the electromagnetic spectrum is controversial. Indigo is a deep and bright color close to the color wheel blue (a primary color in the RGB color space), as well as to some variants of ultramarine.
Indigo dyes mostly used for yarn dyes of denim, but nowadays sulphur dyes also used for yarn denim dyeing. Sulphur dyes are most commonly used dyes manufactured for cotton in terms of volume. They are cheap, generally have good wash-fastness, and are easy to apply.

From two component that we mentioned above then to be a denim fabric.

Nowaday, denim isn’t about a clothes and fabric, but denim is a legend, denim is a life style.
