NEW DELHI: Expressing apprehension that the garment sector may see a 18-22% decline in rupee realisation in exports and loss of 6.2 lakh jobs in the current fiscal, industry representatives have demanded relief from the government.

Garment and textiles fetched US$530 million in October, brining the total export turnover of the staple in the first ten months of this year to US$4.96 billion, the Trade Ministry reports.

Unable to sustain export growth owing to the strengthening rupee, garment and apparel manufacturing companies are leasing their factory space in Delhi to others and re-locating to cheaper locations like Manesar and Faridabad.

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan government has decided to review all taxation and tariff related issues including the Research and Development support for garment units in Export Promotion Zones (EPZs) to attract foreign investment in the country.

RICHARD Ozelle is a youthful, progressive cotton farmer in Nyamasoga village, in Biiso sub-county in Buliisa district.

He started growing cotton after the death of his father four years ago to make ends meet. Ozelle said he started with an acre of land and gradually increased the acreage to two-and- a half acres after he got good yields.
