THE Minimum Wages Board at its 25th meeting on September 12 decided to fix the minimum wage for workers in the readymade garment sector at Taka 1604 per month and urged owners of garment factories to implement the same. The owners of factories termed the minimum wage high and said it was difficult for them to implement. Workers found the decision unacceptable and that mainly on the ground of failure of the Wage Board to assess the needs of the workers and earnings of owners of garment factories. Designer says Dunnes was copying

An Irish fashion designer told the High Court today that a Dunnes Stores top was “a direct copy” of a Karen Millen sweater.

In a landmark case over the protection of design rights, Ms Helen McAlinden said she had examined both the Karen Millen “cami vest with a full shrug” and a Savida sweater sold by Dunnes Stores.

DHAKA, Oct 2 Asia Pulse – Over 100 people, including police, were injured in a fierce street fight between garment workers and cops at Uttara in the capital Saturday.

Witnesses said traffic on Dhaka-Mymensingh road halted for about three hours due to the widespread clash in a fresh outbreak in the garment industry-this time the sacking of 13 workers igniting the powder keg.

Industrial exports to US fall in new first

Exports of industrial goods to the United States have fallen in value for the first time ever, due in part to the appreciation of the baht against the dollar.

The value of industrial goods shipped to the US from January to August totalled $9.94 billion, down 5.12% from the same period last year, said Atchaka Sibunruang Brimble, the director-general of the Office of Industrial Economics.
