Garment pact good beginning for India-Bangladesh’

DHAKA: The India-Bangladesh memorandum of understanding (MoU) on garment exports is a very good beginning in business relations between the two countries and offers a big opportunity in bilateral trade, a Dhaka daily has said.

Bangladesh battles charges over child labour in garment factories

DHAKA: Bangladesh is engaging a lobbying firm to counter a US-based rights group’s move to cancel the generalised system of preferences (GSP) – that favours Bangladeshi garment export – on grounds that the country does not allow labour rights in export processing zones.
A high-level team of government officials and industry representatives will be in Washington to help counter the move, for which a number of position papers have been prepared and rushed to the embassy in time for the hearing before the United States Trade Representatives (USTR) on October 4. Fiji’s garment industry fails to secure exemption from maternity leave provisions

Fiji’s garment industry has apparently failed to win an exemption from the planned maternity leave provisions in the new Employment Relations Bill.
Most of the workers in the industry are women.
