Government ends support for textile and garment industry

The Prime Minister has decided to end support for the textile and garment industry to ensure equality in competition, and meet the requirements of international economic integration in new situation, particularly Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organisation.

Decision 126/2014/QD-TTg issued on May 30 invalidates Decision 55/2001/QD-TTg dated April 23, 2003 which ratified the industry’s development strategy and several measures to support the strategy’s implementation. Read more about Government ends support for textile and garment industry …

* Inbound garment cargo also slips by 25 percent
* Total outbound cargo posts 15-percent decline
* Total inbound cargo decrease by 15 percent

The worldwide lifting of trade quotas continues to negatively impact the local garment industry, with outbound cargo of finished garment products dropping by 25 percent during the first seven months of fiscal year 2014, Ports Authority data showed.

This figure represents the volume of apparel products that are for off-island sales.

INDIAN GARMENT EXPORTS TOUCHES US $ 8200 MILLION – SHANKERSINH VAGHELA

India has achieved a new milestone of US$ 8200 million in garment exports during the year 2005-06 with a growth of 32% as compared to the previous year. Speaking at the inauguration of Apparel House Auditorium of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) at Gurgaon today, the Minister for Textiles, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela said that Apparel Export Promotion Council is gearing up for a comparative competitive environment in the industry.

He urged the exporters to enhance capacities so that more and more employment could be generated. He also informed that more outlay for Integrated Textile Parks have been provided with a total investment of Rs.750 crore. This scheme would provide employment to 20,000 people.
