A continual fall of exports of the Nepali ready-made garments to the United States continued for yet another month, as the month of May 2014 saw a massive decline of 60 percent in exports, reported the local media website THT Wednesday.
This is the fifth consecutive month this year that the exports of Nepali textile and apparel products lost its upbeat. The garment export to the United States has been suffering from the very beginning of the year, as it witnessed a whopping decline of 54 percent in January, 64 percent in February, 47 percent in March and three percent in April. Thousands of agitated garment workers went on rampage again on the garment factories in the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) at Savar area yesterday forcing the foreign and local investors to close down their establishments. (New Nation)
The workers also put up barricades at different points, including Jamgara point on Ashulia-Nabinagar road. They also damaged several factories.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicates that, in April 2014, Macao’s total value of exports amounted to MOP1.65 billion, up 45.0 percent over the same month of 2005.
Among this, the value of domestic exports surged 74.6 percent to MOP1.11 billion and the value of re-exports rose 7.5 percent to MOP540 million. Value of imports amounted to MOP3.13 billion, up 30.6 percent over the same period of 2005. A trade deficit of MOP1.48 billion was recorded this month. All the factories in Dhaka Export Processing Zone have been declared closed from Sunday for indefinite period following fierce clashes between two groups of workers on Saturday in a latest outbreak of industrial unres, reports UNB.
