Vietnam’s garment export surges in 4 months

Vietnam is estimated to reap over 1. 7 billion U.S. dollars from exporting garments and textiles in the first four months of this year, a year-on-year rise of 38.7 percent, a local trade information center said Friday.

With such high export growth, Vietnam is likely to make garment export revenues of 5.5 billion dollars this year, up nearly 14.6 percent against last year, the Trade Information Center under the Trade Ministry said, noting that many enterprises in the country have already inked contracts on exporting garments and textiles for the whole 2014, mainly to the European Union (EU) and the United States. Global garment retailer C&A to buy organic cotton from India

Leading global garment retailer C&A has decided to source organic cotton from India to make garments, a move that will give a big boost to Indian farmers.

“The C&A will source 7,500 tons of organic cotton from India this year for manufacturing clothes,” Anuradha Bhavnani, India head of Shell Foundation, which is instrumental in sourcing global customers for Indian organic cotton, told reporters. Tirupur leads the pack in garment exports

COIMBATORE: The knitwear cluster of Tirupur has crossed yet another milestone. For the first time, knitwear exports from the town has touched the Rs 8,000-crore mark for FY06, senior officials of Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) said.

Dhaka, April 26 (Xinhua): Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector is facing severe crisis due to inadequate and irregular power supply that pushed the potential export-oriented sector to cut off its production by at least 30 percent on a regular basis since February.

CDA takes initiative to set up two garment villages

Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has taken an initiative to set up two garment villages in the port city to cater for the needs of garment sector, the largest revenue earner of the country.
Under the initiative, CDA plans to develop the garment villages on some 114 acres of its land at Mansurabad in Agrabad and at Mohora in Chandgaon.

All set to launch garment workers’ training

LAHORE: The ministry of textile is prepared to launch garments workers’ training programme within garment factories.
The ministry of textile has selected about 20 factories throughout the country where technical training institutes will be developed for training of female workers to meet the growing need of trained workers in the garment industry.
