Among the emerging markets for textile machinery, Vietnam is one of the most promising one. In 2005 Vietnam was ranked 16 out of 153 nations manufacturing and exporting textiles and apparel. India seems to be heading towards record carry forward stock for the fiscal 2014-10. Cotton traders estimate that the new cotton season next fiscal will start with huge carry foward stock of cotton to the tune of more than 70 lakh bales, while government officials peg the figure at 50 lakh bales.

Nearly 1,500 Vietnamese workers went on strike at a South Korean-owned garment plant demanding more money amid rising prices, and half of them remained off work Monday, a company official said.
The workers at SH Vina Company in southern Long An province walked out last Thursday demanding an additional 150,000 dong (about $10) monthly travel allowance amid high inflation driven by surging fuel prices, he said.

Mumbai, Mar 3 The garment manufacturing industry is disappointed with the Union Budget 2014-09 presented by the Union finance minister, P Chidambaram last Friday.
The industry was expecting reduction of import duty and removal of countervailing duty on import of garment machinery, which would have helped in the upgradation and modernisation of the industry, according to the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI). The industry has urged that the import duty on all machinery for use in the garment industry and accessories should be charged at a fixed 5% duty, without CVD or any other charges. Q: I have almost finished knitting a simple scarf. Is there a trick to keep the edges from curling?
A: Unwanted rolling at the edges of an otherwise attractive finished garment can frustrate even the most skilled knitter. Such rolling can happen for a number of reasons, but the most likely culprit is the stitch itself.
Stockinette, for example, a basic and commonly used stitch made from alternating knitted rows with purled ones, always tends to curl at the edges. (In fact, many knitting patterns are written to take advantage of

A simple, low-tech garment has the potential to prevent a major cause of death among women who give birth in many Third World countries, according to a new study by maternal health researchers.
Study findings show the use of a neoprene suit can save the lives of women suffering from obstetrical hemorrhaging due to childbirth. Hemorrhaging accounts for about 30 percent of the more than 500,000 maternal deaths worldwide each year due to childbirth, nearly all in poor countries, according to the researchers.
