“My jewelry is positive, not pretentious,” says Ordoñez. “It talks to you.” One particular necklace carries a pendant with a quote by English novelist Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley: The Beginning is Always Today. The materials for her colorful, eclectic pieces include hand-blown Venetian glass, 14-karat gold and enamel charms, vintage glass beads, leather and sterling components. Duncan & Boyd Jewelers, an Amarillo-based jewelry and diamond boutique, opened in 26 Doors at 1206 W. 38th St., marking the third retail store for the company — the first in Austin.

Duncan & Body’s other locations are in Amarillo and San Antonio.

DESPITE the low prices of fashion accessories from China, the local costume jewelry sector has spurred “tremendous” growth last year, an official from the Cebu-Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters (Fame) said.

Gold added to Wednesday’s gains Thursday, buoyed by robust jewelry demand.

Contracts for December delivery of bullion closed up $7.60 at $610.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) _ The former president of a jewelry manufacturer was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on Wednesday for a fraud that cost Fleet Bank $15.76 million, federal prosecutors said.

Jewelry designer Laura James Gains, a Jackson native, will be featured in the November/December issue of Mississippi Magazine.

Gains is based in Charlotte, N.C. Her jewelry line, Laura James Jewelry, features handcrafted collections from trendy to vintage.
