Jewelry helps boost Penney’s June sales

JULY 10, 2006 – Plano, Texas — Fine jewelry was among J.C. Penney Co. Inc.’s top sellers in June, with total sales up 5 percent to nearly $1.61 billion for the five weeks ended July 1, compared to $1.54 billion last year.
Same-store sales for the fiscal period were up 4.3 percent compared to a 7.4 increase last year.
