Tighter US customs rules expected on garment imports from Vietnam

Ha Noi, Feb 7 (NNN-VNA) The Ministry of Trade has recently warned that US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may request additional documentation from local companies to avoid illegal shipments of textiles and garments.

US ports may request records such as certificates of origin, bills of lading, or Vietnamese Government issued documents regarding conditions of release for export.

The export of readymade garments to the United States, one of the major market for Nepal, has declined by 54 percent in January as compared to same month of the last fiscal year, leading local media group’s website nepalnews. com reported on Wednesday.

337 workers of Winners Corp. garment factory, which ceased operation yesterday, can seek new jobs, even if they’re not garment-related.

In an order issued on Monday, Department of Labor hearing officer Jerry Cody instructed the garment workers to register themselves on or before Feb. 20 with the Division of Employment and Training Services which will inform them of their transfer rights and obligations.
