At Hansoll Vina garment factory located in southern Vietnam’s Binh Duong province, nearly 4,500 labourers have gone on strike. They are demanding better working conditions and increase in wages.

Last Wednesday (30th Jan) two workers in World Dresses Ltd, Mirapur, Dhaka, were attacked and beaten by management staff at the end of an evening shift. NEW DELHI: Five members of a family, including two children, were killed when a fire broke out at a garment godown at the ground floor of a house here this morning.

TAMBARAM : A delegation from the Textiles Council of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Japan, visited a private garment unit in the Madras Export Processing Zone-Special Economic Zone in Tambaram on Wednesday to explore the possibility of making India its base for manufacturing garments.

The private garment unit, Indo-Japan Apparels, is a joint venture of Devi Exports Corporation, India, Mitsui and Company, Tokyo, and Mitsui Asia Investment, Singapore. Tomio Morishita, chairman of the Council who led the 14-member delegation, said that as the production cost was high in Japan, many goods for domestic consumption were manufactured in China and other countries. PHNOM PENH (AFP) — Cambodian garment exports plummeted 46 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, capping off a dismal year in one of the impoverished country’s key sectors, industry officials say, warning of future factory closures and job cuts.
An economic downturn in the United States, which buys 70 percent of all Cambodian textiles, and continuing domestic labour disputes contributed to the plunge, said Van Sou Ieng, chairman of the Garment Manufacturers’ Association of Cambodia (GMAC).
