VietNamNet Bridge – More than 1500 designs from 46 designers nationwide are blossoming at the Spring – Summer 2014 Fashion Week in Hanoi, which is considered the launch pad for Vietnamese new trends.

The Week was opened yesterday by the Vietnam Textile Corporation Vinatex at the International Convention Centre. Six leading garment companies will participate in the Week, including the Viet Tien Textile Corporation, Phuong Dong Textile and Garment Company, Garment Company No. 10, Nha Be Textile Joint Stock Company, Hanoi Textile Corporation Hanosimex, and Viet Thang Garment Joint Stock Company. Garment workers who already got their share of the settlement money from the CNMI garment industry will likely receive more from the $2.1 million that remain undistributed.

Garment Oversight Board chair Timothy H. Bellas told Saipan Tribune that under GOB’s plan-subject to the district court’s approval-they will pay about 600 additional garment workers who claim they did not get any checks.

Under the plan, Bellas said, these 600 additional people will be paid out of the $2.15 million that the plaintiffs’ counsel transferred to GOB pursuant to a court order. Read more about Garment workers who got checks likely to get more

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Textile firm Alok Industries Ltd plans to convert two struggling state-run spinning mills into garment units as part of a plan to revive them.

The company, which on Wednesday said it has formed two JVs with National Textile Corp to revive a mill each in Mumbai and Aurangabad, hopes to set up garment units with a capacity of 500 machines, an Alok official who declined to be named said.
