Keberadaan sentra industri tekstil, seperti batik atau tenun, di daerah-daerah harus lebih didorong agar bisa mengisi kebutuhan nasional serta untuk menembus pasar luar negeri.Akan tetapi seluruh sumber daya yang ada juga harus bisa dipersatukan untuk memenangkan posisi saing, yang harus diperjuangkan dari bawah.

Demikian dikatakan desainer dan pengusaha Poppy Dharsono dalam seminar nasional Eksistensi Pertekstilan di Indonesia yang digelar Jurusan Seni Kriya Tekstil Fakultas Sastra dan Seni Rupa (FSSR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Solo, Senin (18/9). DHAKA: Bangladesh is engaging a lobbying firm to counter a US-based rights group’s move to cancel the generalised system of preferences (GSP) – that favours Bangladeshi garment export – on grounds that the country does not allow labour rights in export processing zones.
A high-level team of government officials and industry representatives will be in Washington to help counter the move, for which a number of position papers have been prepared and rushed to the embassy in time for the hearing before the United States Trade Representatives (USTR) on October 4. Fiji’s garment industry has apparently failed to win an exemption from the planned maternity leave provisions in the new Employment Relations Bill.
Most of the workers in the industry are women.

DHAKA: Bangladesh and India on Sunday signed a deal that will allow Dhaka to export eight million garments duty-free across the border, an agreement billed by New Delhi as a “milestone” in trade relations.
