Turkey, the world’s fourth largest exporter of ready-made garments, is setting its eyes on Vietnam as a manufacturing base because of its low-cost, skilled labour.
Turkish-Vietnamese Business Council chairman Muzaffer Arslan said Turkish companies have opened hundreds of factories in Asia, especially in China over the last few years due to high labour costs at home.
“I am encouraging Turkish garment and textile companies to invest in Vietnam as it has a lot of advantages in terms of labour and favourable policies for foreign investors,” Arslan said. Read more about Turkey gets knitting on garment alliance deal

NEW DELHI: Ashok Piramal group company Morarjee Textiles is looking at expanding aggressively through brownfield as well as greenfield route. The company is also looking at buying brands. HO CHI MINH CITY Vietnam’s $3 billion garment industry, which supplies Nike and Limited Brands, may see a surge in bankruptcies because of rising labor costs and competition from China, the nation’s biggest clothing maker said.
Half of Vietnam’s 2,000 garment factories could file for bankruptcy in the next two years, said Le Viet Toa, vice general director at Viettien. That may offer acquisition opportunities for the state-owned company and help increase its market share ahead of a planned share sale next year, he said in the interview.
