Vietnam has posted textile and garment export turnovers of over 2.7 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of this year, posting a year-on-year surge of 32.6 percent, according to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association on Monday.In the period, the United States was the biggest market of Vietnamese textiles and garments with import volume of nearly 1.4 billion dollars, including 350 million dollars from non-quota products, said Vitas’ chairman Le Quoc An. At least 30 people including six policemen were injured when garment workers clashed with law enforcers and blockaded Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for three hours after rumours spread that their three colleagues died in a road accident.

MUMBAI: The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) feels that Bangladesh is all set to easily surpass India in garment exports by the end of 2014, Rahul Mehta, president said here on July 08.

In 2014, garment exports from Bangladesh was around $ 7.8 billion; whereas the local domestic export stood at $ 8 billion. High prices of cotton bother textile industry

CHENNAI: Despite having a bumper estimated cotton crop of 315 lakh bales (170 kgs each) for the 2014-08 season, the domestic textile industry is saddled with high prices and low carry forward stock. Ironically, the current domestic prices of some popular cotton varieties are higher than international prices, according to industry players.

Textile and garment exports reached US$680 million in June, lifting the industry’s total earnings in the first six months of the year to $3.4 billion, according to the Viet Nam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas).

DA NANG — Turnover from garment and handicrafts exports from Da Nang to the US for the first half of the year has risen sharply, according to the Da Nang Department of Trade.

Turnover value of garment exports to the US market rose 44 per cent, and revenue from handicraft exports went up by 18 per cent.

THE Australian Government has offered to vary the rules of origin under SPARTECA but only if certain conditions are fulfilled.

Local garment operators have vigorously lobbied for a long time for the local content requirement of 50 per cent under SPARTECA to be reduced to 25 per cent for garments made in Fiji.
