A Vietnam-U.S. joint venture is going to construct a textile and garment complex, the most modern of its kind in Vietnam, with total investment of over 80 million U.S. dollars, a local daily reported Thursday.

Under a venture contract signed by the Phong Phu Corporation and the U.S. International Textile Group (ITG), the future complex in central Da Nang city will supply materials for garment production and ready-made clothes, mainly cotton items, in whole package solutions to foreign customers, Youth newspaper reported. About 500 striking garment workers from three Northampton County manufacturers returned to work Thursday after reaching a three-year deal.
Members of the Unite Here union voted 313-95 on Wednesday to approve the contract, ending the Lehigh Valley garment industry’s largest strike in some 50 years. The walkout lasted six days.

A Korean-owned garment factory at Uttara came under attack of a section of unruly elements at 11 AM yesterday leaving over 30 people injured

But the trade union leaders held the management of the factory responsible for the attack alleging that the management of the factory engaged armed hoodlums to let loose a reign of terror in the factory premises to foil the workers what the union leaders said just movement of the workers. Producing import substitution goods and clothing industry accessories have been named among the top criteria for nomination to a Vietnamese textile industry award.

Le Quoc An, chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), said screening of apparel businesses had begun for the award given away by Vitas and Saigon Economics Times magazine belonging to Saigon Times Group.

Police in Bangladesh have used batons to break up clashes between groups of garment factory workers, as thousands staged new walkouts over low wages.
The police intervened when one group of workers, who were locked out of their factory, clashed with another group who refused to go on strike.

A continual fall of exports of the Nepali ready-made garments to the United States continued for yet another month, as the month of May 2014 saw a massive decline of 60 percent in exports, reported the local media website THT Wednesday.

This is the fifth consecutive month this year that the exports of Nepali textile and apparel products lost its upbeat. The garment export to the United States has been suffering from the very beginning of the year, as it witnessed a whopping decline of 54 percent in January, 64 percent in February, 47 percent in March and three percent in April.
