Bangladesh stands on the brink of a major social explosion. Huge rises in the price of basic food stuffs means that hunger is stalking the poor – leading to the violent repression of strikes on the one hand, and suicides among those who have lost all hope on the other.

The price of all foods has rocketed by between 50 and 100 percent over the last 12 months. But rice, our main staple, has increased by as much as 150 percent, while cooking oil and wheat have gone up by around 200 percent. The Generalised System of Preferences (GSP+) is vital for the survival of the garment industry in Sri Lanka as alternatives for garment manufacturing and exporting companies if the European Union (EU) trade concessions are rejected do not look healthy for the garment industry of the country. CHENNAI: The brand of Hucke AG of Germany, Whoopi has tied up with the Hyderabad based Novotex Exim (India) Pvt Ltd to launch garments for children up to the age of 12 years, Executive Director of Novotex, Mr Venkat R.V said here on April 19.

International kids wear brand, Whoopi will commission in June a factory in Hyderabad where it will manufacture garments under the Whoopi brand. Nigerian textile companies are losing business due to cheap and sub-standard fabrics imports.
Country’s textile industry has been suffering mainly because of smuggling, informed The Textile, Garment and Tailoring Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers.

Ha Noi (VNA) – The Viet Nam Textile and Garment Association (Vitas) has announced that it will start eight national trade promotion programmes in the second quarter this year with funding of about 925,000 USD from the State budget.

The association will use the money to accelerate the establishment of a representative office and a showroom in Germany, take part in exhibitions and fairs in the United States, Germany, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and send delegations to the US and Spain to seek business opportunities. Ha Noi (VNA) – The Viet Nam Garment and Textile Group (Vinatex) posted revenue of 47 billion VND (roughly 2.93 million USD) in the first quarter of 2014, a 104 percent increase over the corresponding period last year.

The Viet Tien company led the six Vinatex members, hitting 10 billion VND, followed by Nha Be company with 7.2 billion VND and Det Phong Phu with 6.4 billion VND.
