PHNOM PENH, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) — Cambodia has become the sixth largest garment exporting country in the world, the Chinese-language newspaper the Commercial Daily reported on Tuesday.

The newspapers quoted government spokesman Khieu Kanharith as saying that the pillar industry creates job opportunities for some 500,000 people in Cambodia. Thousands of Limeans crowd its vehicle-free streets while pushing and shoving their way towards Gamarra´s galleries who offer attractive low prices. But we were soon to find that nothing De Maid tried on in her size would fit her.

Waterfront designer stores didn’t appear to stock anything larger than a 14 and even what they had was too small for a regular size 14.

Weekend Argus accompanied 40-something De Maid this week as she went from store to store in the Waterfront to find something to wear.

Garment manufacturer Winners Corp. is also closing down its operations on Saipan effective Feb. 5, 2014.

The Afetnas-based Winners Corp. is the fifth garment factory in the past month to announce shutdown and suspension of factories on the island.

Saipan Tribune learned yesterday from Winners’ official Mathilde Igitol that they have over 500 workers, including less than 90 resident employees.

Winners’ general manager Min Ho Sik informed the Department of Labor last Thursday about the planned closure. Read more about Winners Garment closing too

Multinational apparel firm House of Pearl Fashions has acquired a new warehouse facility in Milton Keynes, UK. The storage facility will be a garment logistics warehouse with a capacity of nearly 43,000 sqft and has been acquired through its subsidiary, Poeticgem.

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has invited garment exporters to set up units in the State’s apparel parks and offered all incentives, including further reduction in power tariff.

After laying the foundation for a Rs. 25-crore apparel unit of Bangalore-based Gokaldas Exports Ltd, readymade garments major Shahi Exports and Textport Syndicate at Nacharam here on Wednesday, he said his Government had reduced power tariff to ensure that the State was the provider of cheapest energy in the country.     PHNOM PENH, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) — Cambodia must strengthen its agricultural sector as the nation’s pillar industries of garments and tourism are too vulnerable to events abroad, local media on Thursday quoted Prime Minister Hun Sen as saying.

    Diversification of trade is the greatest challenge facing Cambodia, as the nation is relying too heavily on textiles and tourism which are vulnerable to recession and terrorism, Hun Sen said at a government workshop on trade in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.
