A nonresident garment worker has sued his former employer for terminating his contract based on national origin.

Reynaldo L. Garcia, through attorney Stephen Woodruff filed a complaint against Poong In Saipan Inc., a garment manufacturer, in federal court last week.

Garcia’s complains cited Poong’s “discriminatory policies, practices and or procedures in discharging and hiring workers that deprived him of equal employment opportunities.” Read more about Garment worker sues ex-employer for discrimination

SURABAYA -Tiongkok saat ini menjadi pisau bermata ganda dalam mengancam industri tekstil dan produk tekstil (TPT) nasional. Selain memukul produk lokal lewat peredaran TPT-nya secara ilegal, produk TPT Tiongkok kini menghantam pasar ekspor Indonesia.

“Saat ini masih bisa ekspor saja sudah untung,” kata Sudarmaji, ketua Asosiasi Perstektilan Indonesia (API) Jatim, kepada Jawa Pos kemarin.

Menurut dia, saat ini TPT Tiongkok membanjiri pasar berbagai negara dengan harga yang murah. Karena daya saing ekspor TPT nasional berkurang, volume ekspor TPT Indonesia tahun ini berkurang hingga 20 persen. Read more about Ekspor TPT Berkurang 20 Persen

ISLAMABAD: The Export Development Fund Board has approved the establishment of a Textile Garment Skill Development (TGSD) Board and ordered the release of Rs 19.9 million for starting the Trade Policy 2004-05 initiative on training workers of the textile garment industry on factory premises.

The idea is to have such training programme affiliated with reputable international certification institutions. The project will involve training of thousands of workers. The current approval will set into motion the process and 1,800 workers will be trained in this phase. The step would help the workers, as it will upgrade their skills and make substantial contribution to promote the export of textile garment sector.
