RAJESH TO LAUNCH FIVE NEW DIAMOND JEWELRY BRANDS

India-based gold and diamond jewelry manufacturer, Rajesh Exports Limited (REL), is in the process of buying local jewelers in south India in attempts to launch its second retail brand, Shubh, over the next few months. The company has stated its intention to open 100 Shubh outlets by the end of fiscal year 2009, according to the Economic Times.

Rajesh Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director stated, “We would look at opening 20 Shubh stores in the next two months around Bangalore. By March ’08, we would like to sign deals for the next 80 stores. For those who oppose Jewelry stores in Ketchikan you’ve got it all wrong. For those of you who oppose the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce’s view on this matter you are wrong as well. The Chamber’s members are business owners, mostly local residents, and consumers. They have a direct impact on the community of Ketchikan and the surrounding area.

The members of the Chamber have a direct affect on this community in that they have chosen to take a risk, be a business owner, provide you with a good or service that you demand, and provide you with jobs. Since they don’t rely on anybody else for income other than the consumer who chooses to purchase the good or service they are providing, they obviously have the economic growth of Ketchikan in mind. Officials may ban toys, jewelry with lead

BOSTON – Lawmakers and public health officials are moving to ban the sale of toys with dangerous levels of lead, following recent recalls of Chinese toy imports and test samplings that found children’s jewelry containing lead in 14 Bay State communities, including two in the Merrimack Valley.

MANILA, Philippines—We woke up to the sad news Tuesday that The Body Shop founder Anita Roddick had died, at 64, of brain hemorrhage.

Roddick was a woman ahead of her time. She championed the use of environment-friendly products and condemned product testing on animals long before doing so became a global cause. When she opened a small store in 1976 in her native Brighton, England, to support her two daughters, the world wasn’t even into organics or natural products. Her The Body Shop brought the modern consumer back to the use of basic, home ingredients that Roddick remembered her mother had been using in the World War II years. Kennedy Museum to roll out the Zuni jewelry

The Kennedy Museum of Art will not only celebrate the opening of an extensive collection of Zuni jewelry on Friday evening, but also two complementary galleries that highlight Edwin Kennedy’s extensive collection of artifacts from the native Southwest group.
