Fire & Flash, the new International Jewelry Showcase at AmericasMart Atlanta, has been established as a biannual market that provides a buying opportunity for jewelry retailers, high-end apparel boutiques and upscale gift stores. The show, being held Oct. 13- 16, marks the one-year anniversary of Fire & Flash, created to meet a growing demand for a fine jewelry and high-end fashion accessories market.

The jewelry showcase will run in conjunction with the Atlanta Apparel market, providing more buying opportunities for exhibitors and new resources for retailers. Jewelry and watch consumers in 2006 traded up to more luxurious choices, according to a recent survey.

In 2006, American consumers spent $62.2 billion buying jewelry and watches, posting a dramatic 6.5 percent increase over sales in 2005 of $58.4 billion, according to new research from Unity Marketing, Stevens, Pa. But it was the luxury end of the jewelry market that experienced the strongest growth last year with sales of fine watches rising 39 percent and fine jewelry up 10 percent. Nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains along Big Basin Way, Saratoga’s downtown, nicknamed the Village, has traditionally been something of an anachronism.
The collection of sunny mom-and-pop outfits with 1960s-style storefronts, where shoppers can stroll in and have the store’s proprietor help them with their purchases, are a dying breed in Northern California.

Saratoga clings to that quaint, cozy image largely by keeping big-time commercial stores from setting up shop in the Village. Starbucks, which won the city council’s approval in 2005, was a rare exception. Subway, when it came sniffing around, was sent straight to the gutter. Cash and jewelry valued at more than $3,000 was taken during an early-morning home-invasion robbery in Deltona.

A couple living in the 2300 block of Chastain Avenue answered a knock at the door about 2:45 a.m. and were confronted by two masked men – one armed with a shotgun and the other with a handgun, Volusia County Sheriff’s spokesman Brandon Haught said.

As one of the latest in a stream of celebrities cashing in on a lucrative jewelry design industry, international pop diva Celine Dion has teamed up with Chinese journalist and media personality Yang Lan to create a jewelry line in China, under the corporate name HV Love.

The collection consists of diamond engagement rings, personal jewelry and women’s accessories. Lan commented in a recent interview that they will cater to China’s urban female customer by leveraging China’s growing love affair with diamond jewelry. Indian diamond firm Gitanjali Gems has acquired licensee rights to develop and market jewelry for the Wimbledon tennis championship. The company has been given a three-year contract to promote Wimbledon Jewellery, a collection of tennis bracelets and pendants.
