Jewelry exports up 52% through May – Brazil

Brazil’s jewelry shipments abroad in the first five months of this year reached a value of US$435mn, up 52% from US$286mn in the year-ago period, a press official with the country’s gems and jewelry trade association IBGM told BNamericas via email.

Exports include uncut and cut gems.

NEW YORK, July 12 (Reuters) – LJ International Inc. on Wednesday raised its quarterly profit and revenue forecast, citing better-than-expected sales at its 32 ENZO jewelry stores in China, Hong Kong and Macau.
The company said it now expects second-quarter net income to be $620,000, or 4 cents per share, on revenue of about $26 million.

The jewelry seller, which derives 77 percent of its revenue from supplying retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. , Zale Corp. , and Federated Department Stores’ Macy’s stores , had earlier forecast net income of $300,000, or 2 cents per share, on revenue it expected to be $23 million to $24 million. MANATEE – A couple who left their home for an hour and a half earlier today came back and found that someone had taken jewelry and a sterling silver dinner set, authorities said.The victims told investigators that their home in the 6300 block of Wingspan Way, was not ransacked, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release. It was around 10 o’clock at night on a Friday in August, almost two years ago, when Donna Deitrick went to the Shamokin asbestos removal business owned by her and her now ex-husband, Robert Yoncuski.
As she loaded things she considered her property into a truck that belonged to the business, a Shamokin police officer stopped by to see what she was doing there, Ms. Deitrick recalled in a Friday morning interview.

The former nurse makes glass or lampwork beads in the basement art studio at her Owensboro home.
“I let the glass do the work. I work below the flame,” said Canat while wearing the special glasses that allow her to see in the white-hot glare of her torch.
