JAKARTA, Feb 3 Asia Pulse – At least 400 medium and large textile and garment makers in West Java have stopped operation over the past year, the newspaper Bisnis Indonesia reported Friday.

Failure of the government to provide support to the companies was the main cause forcing the companies to stop operation, the report said quoting the legislator.

The taxation system, labor problems, and inadequate infrastructure have continued to be in the center of the problems faced by the industry, Deputy chairman of the Commission I of the House of Representative Lili Asdjudiredja said.

Lili said the government has never been serious enough to sort out the problems faced by the industry including red tape in licensing procedure.

He said an investor needs to have 75 licenses to establish a textile and garment company and too many licenses are even required in to change fuel supply, such as from oil to coal.
