Nigeria plans to import herbal products from Indonesia. The interest of the oil-producing country in Africa to Indonesian herbal products, including herbal medicine, was revealed from a business forum held by the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Lagos, in Kano City, Nigeria.
Many Indonesian products are favored by exporters from various countries. Indonesian footwear products are in high demand because of their high quality. Meanwhile, herbal medicinal products, especially herbal medicine, are also quite popular in both traditional markets and pharmacies. Other products of interest are textiles products, fashion, and processed foods.
At the business forum held by ITPC Lagos, a number of superior Indonesian products were offered, such as various foods and beverages, herbal medicine, batik, shoes, and Indonesian leather sandals to Nigerian businesses.
Nigeria is a promising market for Indonesia with current population of more than 200 million people. While in Kano State itself, the population reaches 20 million people. The Sabon Giri Market in Kano State, which was visited by ITPC, sells a lot of Indonesian medicinal and herbal products. Several Indonesian products other than herbal medicine that KACCIMA members are interested in are paper, agricultural equipment, vehicle parts, batik, Muslim fashion, footwear, and tires.
The enthusiasm of Kano business actors for Indonesian products is also seen at every Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) event. For this year, TEI will be held on 20-24 October 2021 on a hybrid basis, taking into account developments in handling COVID-19.
The total trade between Indonesia and Nigeria in the January-April 2021 period reached USD 776.49 million, with a deficit in Indonesia of USD 495.13 million. In that period, Indonesia’s exports to Nigeria were recorded at USD 140.68 million. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s imports from Nigeria were recorded at USD 635.81 million, dominated by petroleum imports.
