Another year, and now almost a week, has passed us by. In the garment world, it was a wild one, full of one offs, surprise collaborations and the launch of new brands. Starting with MAGIC in February (and the ASG too, of course), I’ve been in a constant barrage of recycled themes masquerading as new ideas. Disappointing really, as one always hopes to be inspired and have interest reinvigorated.

2014 had kids dressed like rock stars, and worse, like bad memories from my youth. In ’92, I bought a pair of royal blue guess jeans. Why? I thought they were the jam. What the fuck did I know, I was 12. But now, kids should have learned from mistakes, they should want to look GOOD, not like the assholes we were in the waning years of the 20th century. Bangladeshi garment workers return to work

Dhaka, Bangladesh: there has been a return to work after two days of strikes and protests which spread to 50 factories and involved thousands of garment workers in Mirpur, Dhaka (see earlier report).
A large stretch of a main highway was blocked in a mainly peaceful demonstration, apart from one brief clash on Thursday afternoon between police and workers in front of the Police Staff College – when stones were thrown at cops, vehicles damaged and police responded with baton charges. Estonian garment maker Baltika’s sales up 28 pct in 2014

TALLINN (Thomson Financial) – Garment maker Baltika said sales in 2014 reached 1.152 bln kroons (73.61 mln eur), an increase of 28 pct over the previous year.

Retail sales surged by 34 pct year-on-year to 987 mln kroons, while wholesale decreased by 4 pct to 145 mln kroons, the company said in a statement to the stock exchange.
