DA NANG — Turnover from garment and handicrafts exports from Da Nang to the US for the first half of the year has risen sharply, according to the Da Nang Department of Trade.

Turnover value of garment exports to the US market rose 44 per cent, and revenue from handicraft exports went up by 18 per cent.

The dramatic increases helped the city of Da Nang reach overall export turnover of US$ 361.3 million, up 22 per cent compared with the same period last year, the department said.

Industry officials said the permanent Trade Normalization Agreement between Viet Nam and the US and Viet Nam’s membership in the World Trade Organisation in January had contributed to the growth of export contracts with foreign partners.

The 29/3 Garment Company of Da Nang, for example, recently signed a four-year contract valued at US$141 million with US-based Paceman Corporation.

According to the Da Nang Department of Trade, revenue from goods sold in the local area reached VND 5,980 billion for the first six months of the year, an increase of nearly 16 per cent against the same period last year. — VNS
