A 32-year-old former garment worker was arrested for failing to depart from the CNMI in July.

Wang Lang was brought to Superior Court for a bail hearing on Wednesday morning.

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a $300 cash bail and $700 appearance bond for Wang’s temporary liberty.

Wang was originally arrested on Monday by the authorities for an assault charge.

The affidavit of the Division of Immigration stated that Immigration Investigator John Peter later received a call from the Department of Corrections and reported a possible overstaying alien.

Wang was in the custody of the Department of Corrections for the assault charge when arrested for overstaying in the CNMI.

Wang had a previous labor case but it was settled on May 10, 2014.

The affidavit submitted to the court stated that Wang already received his airline ticket to depart the CNMI on July 10 but failed to depart on that date.

Wang does not have any pending application for employment status, and his permit expired on March 11, 2005.

Wang entered the CNMI in 2002 and worked as a presser for the Marianas Garment MFG Inc.
