Fire breaks out in garment factory in Delhi, five killed

NEW DELHI: Five members of a family, including two children, were killed when a fire broke out at a garment godown at the ground floor of a house here this morning.
The blaze started at around 5.50 am at the godown in Kabir Nagar area of Shahdara in East Delhi, fire brigade officials said adding, three fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Five persons – an elderly couple, a 25-year-old woman and two children aged one and seven, all sleeping on the first floor of the house, died due to asphyxiation, they said.
Ten others were evacuated from the house. Short-circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
Earlier, on January 14, four members of a family, including two children, were charred to death when a fire broke out in their residence in Dakshinpuri in South Delhi.
On January 26, a major blaze broke out in a five-star hotel in South-West Delhi, leading to the evacuation of occupants including foreigners from the building.
Two fire brigade officials were injured during the fire fighting operations while hotel staff and others escaped unhurt in that incident.
