France, Pakistan Sign Accord to Promote Garment Industry

KARACHI, Feb 14 Asia Pulse – Pakistan and France’s garment industry have decided to formalise the co-operation and collaboration for exchange of knowledge, skills and promotion of business between the French and Pakistani garment industries.

An agreement in this connection was signed by Pakistan’s Secretary Commerce Syed Asif Shah and Chairman of the French Federation for Ready to Wear Women Garments Jean-Pierre Mocho here recently at residence of Pakistan’s Ambassador in Paris in the presence of the major French textile and garment associations.

The agreement envisages a programme for development of Pakistan School of Fashion Design into a modern international fashion-marketing institute, which could support and prepare Pakistan’s garments industry for the international market, said a press release.

The agreement creates links between Pakistan and French garment industry for exchange of information, awareness raising, exchange of delegations, seminars etc Mod’Spe, (a French fashion school) and Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD), Lahore are implementing a programme for the next two years through which Mod’Spe would provide marketing and merchandising skills to the graduates of PSFD.

Secretary Commerce Asif Shah, in his address, said that it is indeed a milestone agreement that lays the foundation for institutional co-operation among the technical institutions and garment industries of France and Pakistan.

He said the Pakistan was one of the major cotton producing countries and over the years there has been substantial investment in the textile industry.
