Grandview garment manufacturer will close

Garment manufacturer King Louie International Inc. will close its doors after 69 years in business because of competition from imports, the company’s president said Thursday.
King Louie International has its corporate headquarters, a distribution center and 86 employees at 13500 15th St. in Grandview, company President Brett Hackworth said. The company was founded in 1937 as Lerner Brothers Manufacturing,
he saidThe company also has 22 employees at a manufacturing plant in Paola and 160 employees at a plant in Baxter Springs, Kan., Hackworth said. He has been president for a year and has worked for the company for 19 years.

He wouldn’t disclose the company’s revenue.

Hackworth didn’t say when the company will close, but he said he’s in talks to possibly sell parts of the business to buyers who would continue operations and save some of the company’s jobs, though no deal is definite.
