INDIA: Unauthorised trade with Nepal includes Cotton & Garment products

NEW DELHI: The unauthorised exports from the country to Nepal has accounted to nearly 39 per cent of the total imports of Nepal, an Anti-Corruption Project of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries study revealed here on March 22. 

The study conducted by the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries is the largest federal business body of Nepal and further clarifies that the unauthorised exports stands at around $ 4.78 billion.

The report also stated that the informal import covers 7.12 per cent of the total gross domestic product of Nepal. Further Nepal is also losing around $ 104 million to $ 137.28 million in revenue due to unauthorised trade.

The unauthorised trade being carried out through the custom points was too higher than that taking place beyond customs offices. The unauthorised trade was basically in various products including cotton and garments products.
