The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that broiler chicken meat and broiler chicken eggs have achieved self-sufficiency and have high competitive advantages. Both are staple and essential goods as strategic animal food sources needed by the community.
Poultry progress is so rapid along with the increasing productivity of broiler chicken meat and chicken eggs. Broiler chicken meat production during the period 2020-2024 grew by an average of 4.51% per year. Meanwhile, broiler chicken egg production in the same period also grew by 5.45% per year.
In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture noted that national broiler chicken meat production reached 3.84 million tons, with a need of 3.72 million tons, so there is a monthly surplus balance of 116.19 thousand tons or a cumulative surplus (plus carry-over) of 239.09 thousand tons.
Meanwhile, broiler chicken egg production is projected to reach 6.34 million tons with a need of 6.24 million tons and a surplus balance reaching 173.62 thousand tons. The supply and demand data for poultry commodities shows the strengthening of national production capacity and is often interpreted as excess stock that must be managed in the national buffer stock system.
Indonesia has a strategic role and has contributed to the provision of world food from poultry. Although Indonesia’s market share for table eggs has only penetrated East Timor and Singapore, the proportion of Indonesian chicken egg production ranks fourth in the world after India.
In addition to chicken eggs, two poultry companies, namely PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia and PT. Japfa Comfeed routinely exports Day-old Chick Final Stock (DOC FS) of laying hens, frozen chicken carcasses, and live chickens to Singapore every month. This month, the export of hatching eggs from the Parent Stock of broiler chickens amounting to hundreds of thousands of eggs to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has also been carried out by the two poultry business actors.
