A Kansas City man who surrendered eight years after robbing a Northland jewelry store was sentenced Wednesday to five years in federal prison.
Antonio Mitchell admitted in October that he was a lookout in the February 1997 robbery of Meierotto’s Midwest Jewelry, 4311 N.E. Vivion Road. Mitchell also was ordered to pay $1.13 million in restitution to Meierotto’s.
Investigators have said the Meierotto’s robbery was one of nine that a gang led by Clarence D. Burnett committed to prepare for the Oct. 30, 1997, robbery at Tivol Jewels, 220 Nichols Road.
Mitchell did not stay with the gang for the Tivol robbery. His job in the Meierotto’s robbery was to stand in the store with a cell phone and tell his co-conspirators about the location of security guards.
