The Karnataka government has cleared the ‘gems and jewellery park’ and ‘integrated garment city projects’ that are proposed to be set up on the outskirts of Bangalore.
Speaking to reporters here, Karnataka small scale industries (SSI) minister Katta Subrahmanyam Naidu said that the projects were proposed by various trade associations.
Â
While a consortium of jewellery manufacturers’ associations came up with the ‘gems and jewellery park’ project, the South India Garment Association proposed the garment city project.
Â
“The government will only assist the project promoters in identifying the land. The promoters will make all the necessary investments,†Naidu added.
Â
The ‘gems and jewellery park’ will provide entrepreneurs production-cum-showroom-cum-export facilities. The consortium has identified 50 acres near Sarjapur for the purpose. The integrated garment city will come up on a 200-acre plot between Mysore Road and Kanakapura Road. As many as 300 sheds will be built for the garment units, the minister explained.
Â
The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has been asked to expedite the process of acquiring land for the two projects, Naidu said.
