NEW GLARUS — How often do we find birds’ nests after the leaves have left the trees in the fall and wonder “What bird made this nest?” Bird’s nests come in many shapes and sizes. They can be found in trees, on the ground, inside of hollow trees and hanging from branches. Some birds build a new nest every year; others often repair old nests and use them year after year. Nesting materials encompass the range of the obvious twigs, grass or mud to the industrious use of many surprising man-made objects.

Amy Head, a Friend of the New Glarus Woods State Park, will exhibit types of nests along with the materials and methods used to build nests at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the New Glarus Woods State Park in the Chattermark Amphitheater. She will discuss how nests influenced people to replicate similar objects, such as bowls and baskets. Participants can join in a nest building session using the same materials that birds use.

This free event is hosted by the Friends of the New Glarus Woods State Park. Parking is available in the State Park with a Wisconsin State Park sticker.
