Newstar Jewelers, one of the area’s largest and most successful jewelers, continues to remain in the forefront with outstanding quality and knowledgeable and professional service.

Newstar was founded on the concept of selling only the best fine jewelry, and backing sales with service to match. Whether it’s purchasing that important piece, or having a well-loved piece repaired, the experts at Newstar stand ready to help.

Service continues to be an important part of Newstar’s business. Always on the cutting edge of diamonds and elegant fine jewelry, Newstar has added the latest in technology to its shop.

The Starweld lasers offer bench jewelers an alternative to the traditional torch soldering. The laser allows for prongs or shanks of rings to be repaired without the need of removing and resetting precious stones. Repairs on stainless steel and titanium jewelry, expensive eyeglasses or watches are now possible.

“The laser welder is recognized in the industry as the best method for many repairs,” said owner Dan Haake. “Our professionally trained staff can determine which method is best for your specific piece. We are the only jeweler in this area with this technology, which puts us a step above other repair shops. It is a demonstration of our commitment to our customers and caring for their fine jewelry. Our in-store repair shop includes a JA Certified Master Bench Jeweler and an award-winning designer. Stop in and let our jewelers help you with your repair or unique custom design.”

Newstar also has added even more designer lines to bolster the store’s already impressive array of fine jewelry.

“We have expanded our already popular Charles Krypell line,” said owner Ellen Haake. “He creates stunning pieces using sterling silver set with semiprecious stones, some with yellow or rose gold accents. Also, the Bixby line by Honora has more beautiful sterling pieces, some with 14-karat gold accents. This is very high fashion sterling jewelry and at very affordable prices, starting at $200 to $300.”

They say what kind of watch you wear says a lot about a person, and Newstar has a large array of especially fine watches. Newstar has added the Ebel line of fine watches from Switzerland, long known as the home of fine timepieces.

“Ebel is a fine old Swiss watch company, and we are delighted to have these watches,” Ellen said. “Ebel makes mostly women’s watches. For the men, the Breitling line continues to be popular. Breitling also makes women’s watches, but the men’s watches are especially sought after.”

Everyone is looking for the Journey pendant to commemorate life’s journey, and Newstar has a large selection of these pendants, made in-house, and offered at all price ranges.

Newstar’s impressive designer lines also are being expanded.

“Simon G., one of our most sought-after designer lines, is now featuring colored diamonds and rose gold. This exciting designer does everything from engagement rings to earrings as well as men’s jewelry,” Ellen said. “We are one of the largest Simon G. dealers in the Midwest.”

An affordable line called Daring Diamonds showcases diamonds set in tarnish-proof silver. This line should be popular as gifts for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

“Last year was the sixth year in our Naperville store, and we are very pleased that the location is now well established in that market,” Dan said. “Not only do Joliet shoppers recognize the advantages of coming to Newstar, but so do shoppers in Naperville as well.”

The Naperville location has an amazing computerized engraving system that can engrave text or even logos on almost any surface, as well as do glass etchings. This service is perfect for personalizing glassware for weddings, or even wine bottles to be given as a special gift. The computer can make text small enough to engrave entire letters, poems or other lengthy, personalized messages.

The Haakes always are looking for ways to improve the products and services they offer their customers. For this reason, Newstar buys most of its diamonds directly from a stone-cutter overseas.

“For years, we have only sold non-conflict diamonds,” Ellen Haake said. “We know where our diamonds come from, and all have certification as to their origin.”

Diamonds, of course, are really Newstar’s specialty, and the jeweler carries a wide variety of certified, premium diamonds. An independent trade lab certifies more than 80 percent of Newstar’s diamonds, and other diamonds can be certified by arrangement.

Newstar supports its employees in building their education of jewelry and gemstones by encouraging them to attend professional classes. The store invites you to come in with your questions and let the experts at Newstar share their expertise with you.

Newstar carries some of the finest jewelry available, from diamonds and platinum to pearls and Swiss watches. Just a few of the store’s lines include Mikimoto Pearls, Lladro gift items, Breitling, Raymond Weil, and Tag Heuer watches.
