Paige Barbee recently attended the Atlanta Jewelry Show where she was awarded third place in the category of Traditional Materials and Processes. Her entry was a scarab necklace, created in copper and leather, with the design reminiscent of Egyptian neck pieces. She received a $50 cash prize, trophy, and a Swiss-made jewelers’ tool valued at $350.

Awards for the competition, themed “A Feast for the Eyes: The diverse Table,” were given in four categories: Traditional Materials and Processes, Altelrnative Materials and Processes, CAD/CAM/RP and Art Jewelry, as well as the top people’s choice award, Best in Show. Co-sponsored by Stuller Inc., the fifth annual competition continued the tradition of recognizing the outstanding work of Savannah College of Art and Design students while also providing budding jewelry designers with an inside look at the commercial jewelry industry. The competition was hosted by the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association (SJTA) and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) on March 1, 2009, during the Atlanta Jewelry Show.
