Ha Noi, Feb 7 (NNN-VNA) The Ministry of Trade has recently warned that US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may request additional documentation from local companies to avoid illegal shipments of textiles and garments.

US ports may request records such as certificates of origin, bills of lading, or Vietnamese Government issued documents regarding conditions of release for export.

US customs officials want to ensure shipments do not circumvent quota regulations or admissibility requirements

“If the requested documents are not provided and the lack of such documentation precludes verification of the claimed country of origin or proper resolution of admissibility, the goods may be excluded from entry into the US,” stated CBP officials in a memorandum posted on the agency’s website.

To avoid such risks, the Ministry of Trade has recommended that local companies gather all the necessary documents to verify the goods’ origin, and suggested companies prepare Vietnamese and English versions of documents.

Ministry officials also said papers should be in order well in advance to make it easier for the US customs officers and expedite clearance procedures.

The United States is a major market for locally made clothes. Viet Nam shipped 2.2 billion USD worth of garment and textile goods last year to the US, out of an industry total of 5.8 billion USD.
